A note from the Artistic Director

With our final performance of Scapino!, we put a bow and took a bow on our successful 2024 season. With pretty lights strewn across downtown, the brisk air freezing tears to our cheeks, and the notorious "Brokeneck Santa" making his annual appearance, Belfast prepares for another cozy winter. In a time of appreciation for our loved ones and community, we here at Belfast Maskers are reminiscing and feeling grateful to everyone involved in our 2024 productions, from cast and crew to our beloved audience members. We couldn’t have done it without you.

With the calendar approaching its expiration date, we are also peeking ahead at the exciting prospects we have to offer next year. Now, I am thrilled to announce several new features to be introduced in our 2025 season!

First up, we have a brand-new Season Pass, which can be used for one ticket to each of our season’s productions: Becky’s New Car, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, The Maine Playwrights One Act Festival, Twisted, One Blue Tarp, and Puffs. Also included is a 5% discount on all Maskers merchandise and Maskers special events in 2025. The pass can be purchased for an even $100, or $90 for students and seniors. With the holiday season swiftly upon this, this could also be an excellent gift for any theater lovers in your life!

Also new for 2025: Community Tickets, which follow the same premise as “Caffè sospeso” or “pending coffee,” in which one customer pays the price of two coffees so that a later customer may have a free coffee. In this same vein, our Community Tickets are graciously purchased by some audience members as donations to be used by future audience members. By instituting this procedure, we aim to provide opportunities for everyone to celebrate the arts, regardless of their financial means to do so. Everybody deserves to experience the joys of live theater!

Our third announcement comes on the heels of a previously announced new feature: submissions are now open for our Maine Playwrights One Act Festival. Any Maine resident is eligible to submit a One Act play, so whether you are an accomplished writer with volumes of work or an intrigued newcomer to the page, we welcome your stories. The festival will be held in June and the deadline for submissions is the end of February, so mark your calendars and prepare your typewriters!

With these new elements of our production process, we hope to enrich our local community by inspiring lifelong thespians and newcomers alike to support theater and each other. We encourage you, as always, to get involved and broaden your horizons here at Belfast Maskers. Wherever you join us in 2025, whether it’s onstage, backstage, or facing the stage, we can’t wait to see you!
